After my knee  injury in November, I had quite slow progress in the gym and lower motivation to go and exercise. Now, I was able to hit a 1-rep max of 150 kg on the squat and 175 kg on the deadlift. I can also confidently enter badminton tournaments. My back definition is also getting much better. Comparing day 1 and day 70, it's a world of difference. The results I’ve seen through my 16 weeks on the plan have had a great impact on my mental state. When I’ve worked with online coaches in the past the goal has been to strip off as much fat as possible as fast as possible. With Dan it’s been about creating sustainable change that I can maintain beyond the program. The biggest change for me has been my overall shape. For me this has been really useful in dispelling any gym myths and making sure I’m on the right track with my training.

Communication with your coach can be a bit of a balancing act. Dan is there when you need him but also gives you the space to go off and do your own thing if you need it. Personally I have a lot going on with work commitments outside of the gym which dan understands and supports. Having a coach chase me me for daily updates would make the process more work but being able reach out with questions, share key milestones, have a joke, makes the process more enjoyable.

The biggest challenges I’ve faced with my training are that, after a few years of training, I felt like I was bored in the gym and I’d hit a plateau where I couldn’t go any further on my own. Dans been able to help me mix this up with variations of movements/ exercises and regularly amending the work outs which is something we identified early in the program. I don’t think the progress has come down to milestones, it’s more about consistency and showing up every day. The food is equally as important as the training and without following the diet I wouldn’t have seen the results I have. One thing I am proud of is the cardio. It’s no secret I’m not a runner and I’m not a massive fan of it but Dan encouraged me through it and now I’m doing 10k in under an hour!

Prior to your program, I had a level of discipline for workouts but not so much for dieting. The communication has been great. The only downfall with the 7 hour time difference is having questions when I’m at the gym. This mainly happened at the beginning, if I didn’t know a movement or needed an alternative I resorted to YouTube. I rectified that by reviewing the workout before hand when I know you’re up. Aside from this, I feel you make all efforts to respond, whether WhatsApp or Instagram. You’re also easy to talk to and that helps so much.

I am a sucker for flour and iced coffee. Meal prepping came easy but denying those little treats, not so much. I had it more than I should have and that’s why my body fat slowly grew. You have helped me resist the treats. I’ve also struggled with healthy meal options and you have introduced me to some. I’ve taken a long break from alcohol realizing I don’t need it to properly have fun. This is a big deal being I work for the company that makes the most popular beer here among other alcoholic beverages. Overall you’ve helped my willpower making it easier to go with the healthier options.


It’s almost always a celebration in my work place, at our office we have a refrigerator filled with beer, a pastry store downstairs and a great restaurant across from us. I’m proud to say that I’ve denied all of it for weeks. I denied a beer from the CEO himself and I was surely most proud of that hahaha Rope climb is one great example. After our video session I’m able to properly rope climb. More practicing on my part and I’ll master it. Im especially proud of my mental push and working out alone. My best friend and I feed off each other’s mental push but I struggle in her absence, especially for longer WODs. This program has helped me be a lone soldier in the gym and I absolutely love it.

Half way through and it has just been fantastic. Passion and Discipline make it work so the 5000+ miles and 7 hours time difference are no obstacles. I had requested a video session and you gladly agreed; more of that would be fantastic. I had that little back injury and you have been working with me, pausing the program for my rest (doctor’s orders) and starting back slowly. I’m sad this even happened but I appreciate you being understanding; it has prevented me from being discouraged. I can tell this is something you enjoy because it shows when you take time to respond and explain. Through my 12-week programme with Dan, I lost a few KG’s whilst increasing cardiovascular fitness and slightly improving strength. Physically after improving my diet within the first 4 weeks, I noticed instant fat loss around my lower stomach and back. Communication was one of my main concerns when signing up, being an online coach, I imagined Dan to be very busy and ultimately not have much time for me, this was not the case. Dan was chatting to me daily, asking me how my sessions went, how I found them if I had any questions. He made me film everything and was constantly assessing my CrossFit form and technique and providing feedback in the form of videos and demonstrations. At least every other week we would have a phone call or facetime chat about progress and how I was getting on. If it wasn’t Dan, it was his team who was always there to help or provide advice. Immensely impressed with the communication and feedback!

Dan and his team have helped me to tackle challenges in the gym I have always put off. Traditionally I always steered clear of gymnastics, I would void WODS that had large amounts of T2B in and pull ups. Dan instantly got to work with me, starting off with low reps and scaled versions and building up my confidence and technique until I could carry out these weaknesses with a lot more sureness and success. Wall walks were my complete kryptonite and over the 12 weeks I’ve lost count with how many I did, but when they came up in one the open workouts, I was happy to attack it with confidence knowing I could smash them now. Since finishing the programme this has reflected in my training going forward, I now no longer avoid my weaknesses but train them more often until they become strengths.
